Sun! In Vancouver!

It may have snowed and rained yesterday, but it was sunny today and it was sunny on Friday and it was sunny on Wednesday and it is a beautiful thing to be able to sit outside in the sun and feel the vitamin D you've been deprived of for so long return to your body. Actually, I'm sure the amounts of vitamin D I got this week were minimal, but either way, nice weather made this week a very pleasant one. After two rowing failures last weekend, I got my fill this week with two early morning rows on Tuesday and Thursday and a less-early morning row on Saturday. I've been going out in a single to get ready for a race next weekend, and it's been interesting to be back in race mode in a single. Not my all-time favorite, but I'm definitely learning to love it.

School this week was a little more work than last, but still a manageable amount which made appreciating the weather a lot more doable. I had a relatively normal week class-wise, but still had time to recharge from my early mornings. I had my second-to-last day volunteering for Writers' Exchange on Monday for this school year (my last day is tomorrow), and I'm sad it's ending. It's been really nice to have a reason to step away from school work and get off campus once a week, and being around younger kids is a nice change from my day-to-day interactions with young adults.

Amy was gone this weekend, leaving me to my own devices, so I decided that, since I had a manageable amount of work, I would take the time to do some fun things, especially since the weather for today was forecasted to be beautiful, which thankfully came true. Yesterday after my row I spent some time relaxing then did work for the rest of the afternoon. I got dinner with Alonso like Amy and I do most nights, and hung out with a movie in bed for the evening. Despite having gotten plenty of sleep, I was pretty exhausted, and it was nice to just be able to chill. Today I decided to get off campus, because I find that living on campus has led me to have a very strong association between school and home, and sometimes it can be hard to separate the two. I took the bus into Kitsilano where I did some shopping, got myself a chai (my weakness), and spent a long time just walking around in neighborhoods, enjoying their homey feel that's lacking at school. I stopped at the grocery store on the way home, then begrudgingly made my way back to campus. I stopped in my room for a little food before heading over to the Museum of Anthropology.

On Wednesday for my drafting class, we traded our classroom for the MOA to get some practice sketching. I didn't manage to finish all the sketches in the time we had, so I went back today to do what was left. Before Wednesday I hadn't been to the museum, and if anyone is interested in anthropology or First Nations art and history, I would definitely recommend making the trip if you're ever in Vancouver. I just got back from my second excursion, and plan on taking some time to sit down (I've walked 6.4 miles today, according to my phone) before possibly going down to Wreck Beach to watch the sunset.

I hope the sunny weather here makes its way to you, wherever you are!

Chai and a donut because why not?

I was fascinated by these little Inuit carvings at the MOA

Definitely the ugliest view of the coffee shop (49th Parallel), but their glassed-in area was super comfortable in the sun
